EU tax and accounting advice, from advisers who live in Riga.
Balt Partners is an independent, English-speaking tax and accounting firm based in Riga. We advise non-EU businesses on company formation in Latvia, EU VAT and OSS registration, company structure and tax residency. You make the decisions. Our job is to make them clear.
- 0% on retained earnings; 20% only on distributed profits. Latvian statutory law since 2018. We explain what it means for your numbers.
- Advice before paperwork. Your EU entity can be registered in 2 business days for EU VAT, OSS and selling on Amazon Europe, but the structure decision comes first.
- Clear guidance on tax residency. Latvia recognises more than one path. We lay out the conditions, you pick what fits.
- Practical advice on Riga itself: housing market, cost of living, getting settled. From people who did it themselves.

What they say.
"Clear advice, my decision."
The EU VAT and OSS registration let me invoice European clients and sell on Amazon Europe. Every option was laid out with the trade-offs attached. Nobody pushed. I decided at my own pace.
"Straight answers, every time."
My company was live in 4 days and the business account followed right after. What kept me was the clarity: before each step, I knew exactly what it meant for my EU VAT setup and my books.
"The honest comparison."
I came weighing several EU routes for my European contracts and marketplace sales. They walked me through the trade-offs and Latvia won on the facts: inside the EU, inside Schengen, EU VAT and OSS ready, set up in English. I signed and filed everything as the owner.
The six objections we hear all the time.
Is a Latvian SIA a standard EU company?
A SIA is Latvia's standard private limited company, incorporated under national and EU law. Latvia has been an EU member since 2004, joined the Eurozone in 2014 and the OECD in 2016. It gives you an EU-established entity for EU VAT, OSS and single-market trade, like a company formed in any other member state. Our advice works within that framework.
Do I have to live 183 days a year in Latvia?
Not necessarily. Latvian law recognises more than one path to tax residency, and the 183-day count is only one of them. A declared address held year-round is another route the law provides for. On the call, we go through the conditions that apply to your case, in plain terms, so you can decide.
What does an EU company in Latvia cost, and how is it taxed?
Formation is completed in about 2 business days. Corporate tax is 0% on retained earnings and 20% on distributed profits, Latvia's statutory framework since 2018. Our firm fees for company formation, EU VAT and OSS setup and bookkeeping are laid out in the written recommendation you receive after the call, with no surprises.
What if I want to leave Latvia later?
You can close your Latvian company whenever you choose. Double-tax treaties between Latvia and most EU countries handle the transition cleanly, and we advise on the exit the same way we advise on the entry.
Why Latvia for an EU entity?
Latvia combines EU, Schengen, Eurozone, OECD, NATO and EEA membership with EU VAT and OSS access. It offers 0% on retained earnings and 20% on distributed profits, fast 2-day company formation, a cost of living 40 to 50% below London or Paris, and an English-speaking firm on the ground in Riga. That said, our advice depends on your case, and sometimes the honest answer is that Latvia isn't it.
How long until I'm operational?
Company registration takes 2 to 10 business days. A business account, 1 to 2 weeks. On average, clients go from first call to invoicing from the new structure in about 3 weeks. We map your own timeline during the call.
