FAQ

Frequently asked questions

No, not necessarily. Latvia recognises two paths to tax residency: registering a declared address (deklarētā dzīvesvieta) in Latvia, or spending 183+ days in any 12-month period. With a declared address and real economic substance (active SIA, Latvian bank account, regular presence), you are a Latvian tax resident, no need to stay six months in Riga. You can use Riga as your base and travel freely the rest of the year. The good news: Riga is well connected with direct flights to most major European cities, and the cost of living is 40% lower than in Western Europe. If another country also claims your tax residency, the tie-breaker rules of the applicable tax treaty apply.

Yes. Your spouse and minor children can obtain a derivative residence permit. Children have access to the Latvian school system (international schools available in Riga) and the whole family benefits from European healthcare coverage.

The temporary residence permit is renewable every 1 to 5 years depending on the type. After 5 years of continuous residence, you can apply for permanent residence. Renewal is an administrative formality that we handle entirely for you.

As a Latvian resident, you benefit from free movement across the 27 Schengen countries, access to the European healthcare system (EHIC), the right to open bank accounts throughout the EU without restriction, and of course Latvian tax residency with its advantageous regime.
